SEO & AI SEARCH AGENCY FOR MUMBAI BRANDS

MUMBAI BUILDS THE BRANDS. Make sure the AI names yours.

Mumbai has the brands, the money and the media. What it often lacks is a website the AI can quote. I’m Akshit. From Gurgaon, my team gets Mumbai brands ranked on Google and named in ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers, working with you by appointment, mostly on video.

MUMBAI DOESN’T NEED another pitch deck.

Founders in Mumbai have usually seen every kind of marketing. The D2C founder has run Meta ads since launch. The fintech has a compliance team that reads every line. The production house knows more about storytelling than any agency. So when they ask me about search, they’re not asking what SEO is. They’re asking why the brand they built so carefully barely shows up when someone asks ChatGPT what to buy.

Here’s the honest answer. AI engines don’t reward the best ads or the loudest launch. They reward evidence: pages that state facts plainly, details that match across the web, and trusted sites talking about you. Plenty of Mumbai brands have spent years on paid media and very little on the evidence.

I’ve seen what happens when the evidence is built properly. An ecommerce brand we’ve worked with for two and a half years got zero sales from AI assistants in 2024. Today AI search is a seven-figure sales channel for it. No trick. Years of real SEO, then making sure the machines could read it.

One thing you should know up front. We’re based in Gurgaon, at WeWork Forum in DLF Cyber City, and we have no office in Mumbai. We work with Mumbai brands by appointment, mostly on video. Your AI answers look the same on a screen in Gurgaon as they do in Worli, and that screen is where I’d like to start.

MUMBAI SEARCH, as I see it.

MUMBAI, INDIA

Mumbai isn’t one market. It’s a city of consumer brands, finance and studios, spread from Colaba to Thane and Navi Mumbai, searching in three languages. Here’s what shapes the plan.

01

A city that builds consumer brands

Inc42 Datalabs counts 362+ D2C funding deals in Mumbai between 2015 and early 2026, second only to Delhi NCR, and calls it the fastest-growing D2C hub. Your category is crowded with funded brands, and an AI answer usually has room for three or four of them.

02

Three languages, and the mix keeps shifting

Marathi was Mumbai’s largest mother tongue in the 2011 census, at about 4.4M speakers, and Hindi speakers grew from about 2.6M to 3.6M in a decade. Google’s AI Mode now answers in Marathi as well as Hindi and English, so your brand facts need to read well in all three.

03

People search by suburb and by region

Google suggests “seo company in andheri east”, “seo agency in mumbai central”, “best seo company in thane” and “ai seo company in navi mumbai” as you type. Mumbai buyers think in suburbs and in the wider region, so one city page and one address won’t carry you everywhere.

04

Finance is regulated, and so is what you publish

SEBI’s head office sits in Bandra Kurla Complex, and finance is one of the city’s defining categories. For a fund house, broker, lender or insurer, any page an AI engine might quote has to pass compliance first. Publishing is slower, so each page has to count.

WHAT WE DO FOR Mumbai brands.

THE FULL AI SEARCH PRACTICE →
  1. 01

A baseline of your AI answers

Before any work, we put the 100 questions your buyers ask to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI, three times each, and show you how often you’re named beside the brands you compete with. That’s your Share of Decision, and it’s the number we move.

  2. 02

Product and category pages the AI can quote

Ingredients, sizes, materials, prices and returns written in plain text, with product schema and a clean Merchant Center feed. AI shopping answers pull from exactly these facts.

  3. 03

    Content compliance can sign off

Answer-first pages for BFSI, health and property brands, with every number sourced, disclaimers in place and nothing that reads like a promise of returns.

  4. 04

Pages for the region you serve

From South Mumbai to Thane and Navi Mumbai, a real page for each area you serve, and a Business Profile only where you have a real location.

  5. 05

English, Hindi and Marathi where it pays

We check which language your buyers ask in and write natively for that. No machine translation pasted onto a page.

  6. 06

Mentions, then one number every month

We find the sites the engines cite for your category and earn your place on them through Digital PR. Then we rerun the same questions monthly beside Search Console and GA4, so you see what moved.

WORK THAT backs this up.

All work

Two brands we work with. The ecommerce brand is the clearest example I have of AI search turning into sales. TalentGum shows what paid media, SEO and PR do when they run as one system.

WHAT MUMBAI FOUNDERS ask me.

REAL QUESTIONS, ANSWERED PROPERLY

Which is the best SEO company in Mumbai?

The best one for you is the one that can show work on a business like yours and refuses to promise a ranking. Any list that says otherwise was probably written by an agency on it.

Search for it and you’ll see the pattern. Agencies publish their own “top 10 SEO companies in Mumbai” and put themselves first. Directories help a little, but they mostly tell you who asked clients for reviews. Neither tells you who will move your revenue.

So judge on four things. A result for a business in your category, with the timeframe and how it was measured. The name of the person who will run your account, and a call with them. Ownership of your Search Console, GA4 and Business Profile from day one. And a live look at who ChatGPT and Google’s AI name in your category today, before anyone quotes you a price.

For Mumbai I’d add one more. If you’re in BFSI, health or real estate, ask how they handle compliance review. An agency that has never had copy sent back by a compliance team will slow you down when it happens.

My rule: hire the agency that is most specific about your first 90 days, not the one with the loudest claim.

Can a Gurgaon agency do SEO for a Mumbai business?

Yes, for almost everything that moves search and AI answers. The work happens in your site, your listings and the sources the engines read, and none of that cares where the agency sits. Where distance can hurt is local detail, so that’s where a remote agency has to work harder.

I’ll be clear about us. We’re in Gurgaon, at WeWork Forum in DLF Cyber City. We have no Mumbai office and no Mumbai team. We work with Mumbai brands by appointment, mostly on video.

Here’s what any remote agency should do to earn its place. Learn how your buyers describe places, because a customer in Thane West doesn’t search like one in Bandra. Get local facts from you and from the map, never from guesswork. And meet on a fixed schedule, with your AI answers on the screen, so nothing hides behind a monthly PDF.

The failure to avoid is the opposite one: an agency down the road that outsources the work anyway. Being nearby proves nothing about who does the job.

My rule: judge any agency on who does the work and how often you see it, not on its pin code.

Do I need separate pages for Navi Mumbai, Thane and the suburbs?

Only for the places you really serve, and only if each page says something true and specific about that place. Swapping the area name into the same text is how you build doorway pages, and Google’s spam policies name exactly that.

The question comes up because Mumbai searches are local. Google suggests “seo company in andheri east”, “best seo company in thane” and “ai seo company in navi mumbai” as you type, so people clearly search that way. Google also weighs distance for local results, which you can’t change. Relevance and prominence you can.

Here’s how I’d plan it. If you have a store, clinic or office in Thane or Vashi, it gets a Business Profile and a page with its own address, hours, services and reviews. If you deliver across the region without a location there, a page can still work, but it needs real content: delivery times, local service details, the questions customers there actually ask. If you have nothing specific to say about a place, leave it out.

One caution. Never create a Business Profile at an address where you don’t operate. It breaks Google’s rules and can take your real listing down with it.

My rule: one page for every place you can describe honestly, and not one more.

Should my website have Marathi or Hindi pages for SEO?

If your buyers search in Marathi or Hindi, yes, for the pages that matter most to them. If they search in English, a translated site won’t help and can hurt.

Mumbai is a three-language city. Marathi was the largest mother tongue in the 2011 census, at about 4.4M speakers, and Hindi speakers grew from about 2.6M to 3.6M over the decade before it. Google’s AI Mode now answers in Marathi and Hindi too, so your buyers can ask in their own language and expect an answer in it.

The mistake I see is machine-translating the whole site and calling it localisation. People don’t search in textbook Marathi or Hindi. They mix in English, type in Roman script and phrase things their own way. A literal translation misses all of that.

A better order: check Search Console for Hindi, Marathi or Hinglish queries. Ask your sales team which language customers use on calls and WhatsApp. Then write your five or ten most important pages natively, with proper hreflang tags, and keep your brand name, address and facts identical across versions.

For most B2B, BFSI and premium D2C brands, English stays primary. For local services, food, education and mass consumer products, Hindi and Marathi often deserve real pages.

My rule: write in the language your customers type, not the one that looks impressive on a sitemap.

How should a D2C brand in Mumbai do SEO?

Start with your product and category pages, not a blog. For a D2C brand, those pages are what Google ranks for buying searches and what AI shopping answers quote.

Most D2C founders I speak to grew on Meta and Instagram, which makes sense. The trouble starts when paid costs rise and there’s nothing underneath. Inc42 counts 362+ D2C funding deals in Mumbai since 2015, so you’re competing with a lot of funded brands for the same buyers. Search is the channel that keeps paying after you stop spending.

Here’s what I’d fix first. Category pages that answer the buyer’s real question, such as which option suits whom, not three lines of copy above a product grid. Product pages with ingredients, sizes, materials, prices and returns in plain text, not hidden in images. Product schema and a clean Merchant Center feed, because Google’s shopping results draw on them. Reviews on your own site as well as the marketplaces. And honest comparison pages, because buyers ask AI “X vs Y” all the time.

The failure I see most is a beautiful Shopify theme that loads slowly on a phone on a crowded local train and says almost nothing in text.

My rule: if a buyer can’t compare you from the page alone, the AI can’t either.

What does an AI SEO company in Mumbai actually do?

It works to get your brand named in the answer, and it can show you that answer before and after. Normal SEO stops at rankings. AI search measures what happens when the click never comes.

Google now suggests “ai seo company in mumbai”, “best ai seo agency in mumbai” and even “best geo agency in mumbai” as you type, so the label is spreading fast. A lot of it is old SEO with a new name. Here’s how to tell the difference.

A real AI search agency measures how often you’re named across many buyer questions, many runs and several engines, because AI answers change each time you ask. It finds the sources the engines cite for your category, which usually include comparison sites, marketplaces, business press and specialist publications. It earns your place there. And it keeps your brand facts identical everywhere, so the engine is sure who you are.

In India there’s a language layer too. Google’s AI Mode answers in Hindi and Marathi as well as English, so your facts need to be findable in the language your buyers use.

My rule: before you hire anyone for AI SEO, ask them to show you today’s ChatGPT and Google AI answers for five of your buyer questions. No answers on screen, no AI SEO.

How do BFSI brands do SEO and AI search without compliance trouble?

Publish content that informs rather than sells, have compliance review it before it goes live, and never let a page imply returns you can’t promise. Search and AI engines reward that kind of content anyway.

This comes up with Mumbai brands more than most. SEBI’s head office is in BKC, and Google suggests “sebi advertisement code for mutual funds” as you type, which tells you how many marketers are checking the rules. I’m not a lawyer, and your compliance team has the final word, but the pattern I see is clear.

Pages that explain things well get cited. What a product is, who it suits, what it costs, what the risks are, how it compares with the alternatives. Pages full of “best returns” and urgency rarely get cited, and they’re the ones compliance sends back.

So build the workflow before the content. A calendar compliance has seen in advance. A source for every number. Standard disclaimers. A named reviewer and an agreed turnaround time. And author pages with real credentials, because finance is a topic where Google looks harder at who wrote the page.

The failure mode is a content plan that ignores review, so half of it stalls in approval and the rest goes out vague.

My rule: if compliance would worry about a sentence, an AI engine probably won’t trust it either.

How much does SEO cost in Mumbai?

Published retainers in India run from about ₹8K a month to ₹300K and above. In crowded Mumbai categories I’d expect a serious programme to sit in the upper half of that range. Where you land depends on your competition and how much real work sits inside the fee.

The cheap end is tempting and usually empty. An Indian pricing guide that publishes these bands says packages under ₹15K a month are usually activity-based rather than outcome-based. When your D2C or fintech competitors have funded marketing teams, activity won’t move you.

When you compare quotes, ask what each line solves. Which technical problems get fixed in month one? Which category or product pages get rewritten, and why those? How will they earn mentions on the sites AI engines cite? How will they show you whether you appear in ChatGPT and Google’s AI? If they can’t answer, the price doesn’t matter.

For transparency, here’s how we price. Every engagement starts with a $1,500 Share of Decision audit, credited to your first month if you continue. We scope the retainer in writing from what the audit finds, and it covers SEO and AI search together. We’re not the cheapest option for a Mumbai brand, and I’d rather say so now.

My rule: pay for problems solved, not hours logged.
